Residence hall mailrooms open after student workers return to staff them, generally when classes begin. If you are thinking about mailing some items ahead of time, plan their arrival for after move-in day.
Residents can sign up for cell phone, text, or email notification that a package has arrived, in addition to receiving a package slip in their mailbox.
