The Global Crossroads Living-Learning Community was initiated in the Fall of 2000 to provide students with opportunities to become interested in world events, improve understanding of global perspectives, practice foreign language skills, or plan a future that includes international work or service. This internationally focused community is a partnership with International Programs and Studies and Illinois’ various colleges of ACES, Engineering, Commerce and Business Administration, Fine and Applied Arts, and Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Courses
Special for-credit courses for residents of the community are available on topics such as international relations, politics of developing nations, contemporary dance from around the world, and international relations through film.
Sunday Series
Each semester Global Crossroads invites faculty members to present on special topics and join the Global Crossroads residents for a catered dinner and informal conversation.
Guests-in-Residence/Visiting Scholars
Guests live in Pennsylvania Avenue Residence Hall from several days to a week with main events held in the evenings. Students thus have the opportunity to interact with the guests in a short but intensive period and learn about their work in both formal and informal settings. Such interaction can be inspiring for students and can be the catalyst for their own projects or even career choices. Global Crossroads also collaborates with other university departments and units to host visiting scholars.
Social Events
Global Crossroads residents are very involved in their community participating in and planning many social and educational events. International Cafe, Birthday Celebrations, Special Trips, and other activities provide lively forums for getting to know people from different parts of the world.
Break Housing
Global Crossroads residents are allowed to remain in their rooms during University breaks (Fall, Winter, and Spring) at no additional charge as long as they complete the appropriate break housing contract.
