Daniels and Sherman Kitchen Rules

  • Do not leave food cooking unattended.
  • As long as the key is checked out in your name, you are responsible for every aspect of the kitchen facility and the behavior of the people who are using the kitchen with you.
  • Alcohol is not permitted in the kitchen.
  • You are responsible for leaving all surfaces of the kitchen clean as well as taking out the trash.
  • There is a fine for leaving the kitchen dirty.

  • Remove debris (e.g., packing peanuts or pizza crusts). Flatten and place by floor trash containers. Apartment residents should take flattened cardboard to containers located at recycling drop-off sites.

No plastic bags, please! Take them to local grocery stores.

Glass is not currently accepted in University Housing; however, there are several options for residents who wish to recycle:

The City of Champaign has a free 24-hour recycling drop-off site open seven days a week. The site is located at 1701 Hagan Drive, Champaign, just east of Home Depot (off of Bloomington Road). The site is a two-sort program, which means that materials are separated into fibrous (paper) items and containers. They also accept glass at this drop-off site. For those who live in single to four-plex residences, curbside recycling is available. Those who live in these types of residences should contact their local waste hauler for details. Curbside service is currently not available to complexes more than four units, Greek houses, or private housing.

The City of Urbana has set up an extensive community recycling program, called U-Cycle, that services citizens as well as student residents living in houses and apartments. The program includes curbside collection of recyclables for single family homes, and at least one recycling location at each multifamily complex (apartment.) The program is a "two-stream" system, meaning recyclables are separated into two distinct categories: fibrous (paper) materials and containers. These services are automatically available to all residents of Urbana, and are funded by fees paid by property owners (whether or not apartment tenants incur those fees as well is solely dependent on the complex owner's policy).  Recycling is an individual responsibility, but Urbana makes it very easy!
