Integrated Pest Management

Integrated Pest Management

University Housing Facilities staff use an award-winning, non-toxic system of Integrated Pest Management. This system is highly effective while being good for the environment. Our staff focuses on both structural controls (sealing cracks and gaps) and chemical controls, such as a non-toxic (to humans) dust and various traps.

This integrated system is species-specific, includes long-term prevention techniques, and is designed to reduce environmental pollution through the selection and placement of appropriate least-toxic pesticides. Our pest management program is Green Shield certified. Green Shield is an independent, non-profit certification program that promotes practitioners of effective, prevention-based pest control while minimizing the use of pesticides.

As in any commercial building, we may occasionally see an insect pest. While this is unsightly, please know that our staff immediately respond to all reports. Our facilities are regularly cleaned, inspected, assessed, and proactively treated.

If you do encounter an insect pest in your room or in a common area, please complete a maintenance request. Our staff will respond right away to identify the pest, inspect the space, and make sure the appropriate systems are in place.

You can do your part by making sure you keep any food covered and put away, and taking trash out of your room or apartment on a regular basis.
