Update wireless card driver

  1. Try to obtain an update from your wireless card manufacturer's website
  2. Try to obtain an update from your computer manufacturer's website

Configure wireless card settings

If available, modify the following settings, which may be labeled differently depending on your distribution:

  • Roaming aggressiveness: Medium
  • Transmit power: Highest
  • Power settings: Never turn off the wireless card
  • Power options: Maximum performance

Delete IllinoisNet profile

The method for this varies between distributions.

Install the IllinoisNet wireless profile

Please first check if a wireless profile is available for your distribution here. If there is not one available, skip to the next section.

  1. Connect to the network UIUCnet
  2. Launch a web browser and go to illinois.edu
  3. Select Login
  4. Log in with your NetID and Active Directory (AD) password
  5. Download and install the appropriate IllinoisNet configuration from here.

Configure IllinoisNet settings

If available, modify the following settings, which may be labeled differently depending on your distribution:

  • Security: WPA2-Enterprise
  • Encryption type: AES
  • Network authentication: Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)
  • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
  • Network Access Control: 802.1X EAP
  • Delete UIUCnet wireless profiles
  • Set IllinoisNet as the preferred network
