Fall 2013 Semester Early Arrival

You are strongly encouraged to arrive on your designated move-in day (Thursday, August 22, 2013 for new freshmen and transfer students, and Tuesday, August 20 for new residents of Living-Learning Communities who have registered for LLC orientation; Saturday, August 24 for returning students). We are able to provide the best service to you on that day (I-Guide assistance, hall programming, parking and traffic control, and staff availability). However, if moving in on a weekday causes your family significant hardship, we are happy to assist you.

If you need to move in prior to your designated move-in day, you may do so as early as Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 12 p.m. noon (Central Daylight Time). There are additional fees for moving in early (see cost breakdown below) as these dates fall outside your fall 2013 housing contract dates. Students working for Dining Services will receive information specific to them regarding arrival times and cost.

Please note:

  • No pre-authorization is needed— just show up at the front desk where you were assigned.
  • We are open 24 hours per day after 12 p.m. noon on August 18, 2013— check in anytime day or night. (Note: If you move in on Thursday, August 22, please be sure to arrive at 9 a.m. or after.)
  • Bring a photo ID; we prefer the i-card but will accept any photo ID.
  • We will bill the early arrival amount to your student account, as our offices cannot accept cash.
  • Please obey all parking rules and regulations if you move in early. We cannot waive any tickets or towing charges.

I-Guides will only be available to assist with move-in on August 20, 2013 (for Living-Learning Communities) and August 22, 2013 (starting at 9 a.m. and after). If you are moving in between Sunday, August 18 and Wednesday, August 21, moving carts can be checked out from your front desk for one hour with a state ID.

Campus Groups early arrival:

Campus Units who wish for their group to move in early will be permitted to move in earlier than Thursday, August 22. There are early arrival fees that can be charged to a campus unit FOAPAL, RSO Account, and/or to an individual student account. To arrange for your campus group to move in early, please contact the Housing Information Office at housing@illinois.edu or (217)333-7111 for information on how to gain pre-approval for your group.

*Important: Groups who have arranged Early Arrival Housing in years past for a reduced rate as a result of preferring no meal service for their pre-approved group may be subject to the $50/night/per student rate for August 2013. Excluding the meal portion of the early arrival fee is under review by Housing leadership at this time. A final decision will be communicated by May 1, 2013 to those groups arranging early arrival housing.

Individual early arrival:

Students needing or choosing to arrive early for course registration, college orientation, international student check in, academic testing,  or simply for convenience may come at any time between Sunday August 18, 2013 at 12 p.m. noon and Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. However, individual students who are not affiliated with a pre-approved campus group are subject to the early arrival fee structure noted below. This includes all admitted University of Illinois domestic and international students no matter the date the campus requires you to be here.

See the bottom of this page for more information.
