Configuring TCP/IP

To configure Windows to work correctly on URHnet, begin by selecting Network from your Start menu:

Start Network

From here click on Network and Sharing Center:

In the screen that appears, click on Manage Network Connections in the left column:

Network and Share Center

Right-click on Local Area Connection, then left-click on Properties:

Network Connections

You should now see a window similar to the picture below. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click the Properties button.

LAN Properties

In the window that appears, make sure that both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected. Then, press the OK button in both open windows to complete the configuration.

IPv4

If, after following the steps above, you cannot get a connection to URHnet, see our help pages.

Releasing and Renewing your IP address

  • Click on the Windows Icon button at the bottom left of your screen
  • Type cmd in the Start Search field and select cmd.exe
  • At the DOS command prompt, type ipconfig /release then hit enter to release your IP
  • Then type in ipconfig /renew to renew it. If you get an error try running Winsock Fix.
  • Type ipconfig /all to check your new IP address. It should be of the form 130.126.XX.XX, where XX are numbers between 0 and 255. If that's not also try running Winsock Fix.

Turning off IPv6

  • Follow the above pictures and steps to get to the Local Area Connections Properties window
  • Uncheck the box next to Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
  • Then, press the OK button in both open windows to complete the configuration.
