Setting a Computer Name
To connect to URHnet, your computer needs to have a unique name assigned to it. To assign your computer's name, start by finding My Computer on your desktop. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties:
Select the tab labeled Network Identification and click the button labeled Properties:
Enter a unique name into the box labeled Computer Name. Note: Do not use "unique_name" as in the example...make up one of your own! Make sure that the Workgroup button is selected, and enter RSCNT into the box:
Click OK in both open windows to complete the name change.
Configuring TCP/IP
To configure Windows to work correctly on URHnet, begin by selecting Control Panel from the Settings section of your Start menu:
Open the Network and Dial-Up Connections control panel.
You should now see a window similar to the picture below. Right-click on the icon marked Local Area Connection and select Properties from the menu that appears.
In the window that appears, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties:
In the window that appears, make sure that both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected. Then, press the OK button in both open windows to complete the configuration:
If, after following the steps above, you cannot get a connection to URHnet, see our help pages.
Releasing and Renewing your IP address
