Operating System

Discover your operating system by following the steps below. Note: Instructions are for Windows users only.

If your computer has a Windows Logo button in the lower left corner of your screen, click it. Then type winver and hit the Enter key.

Start Windows Vista

If your computer has a Start button in the lower left corner of your screen, click it. Then find and click on the Run button. In the dialogue box that appears type in winver in the text field next to Open: Then hit OK.

Windows Version

If you ran the command successfully a box will pop up. The logo at the top of the box will tell you the version of Windows you have. The box should look like one of the following:

  • If you have Windows Vista:
    Note: The below picture shows the Business version of Vista, but all versions of Vista are supported by University Housing.

  • If you have Windows XP:
    Note, the box should indicate that you are running Service Pack 3. If it does not, it is imperative that you install Service Pack 3 from Windows Update.

    Windows XP

  • If you have an earlier version of Windows (Windows 2000, ME, 98, 95, etc.):
    We highly suggest upgrading your computer to Windows XP or Windows Vista as we do not support your current operating system. For information on upgrading to a supported Operating System, please click here.
