The following are our recommendations for getting connected to URHnet. Start by picking the operating platform of your choice, either Windows or Macintosh. Note: If you are bringing a used computer to campus, please make sure you have a supported operating system.
Windows Compatible Hardware
- 1.3 GHz processor or better
- 512 MB RAM or more
- 40 GB hard drive or larger
- Legal license of Windows XP or Vista
- 10baseT wired network adapter (required)

- You also have the option of purchasing a wireless network adapter for use around campus. We do not allow or provide wireless access points in residence hall rooms; however, there are access points around campus available for use. To take advantage of these access points, you must have a 802.11b or greater wireless card.

It is required that users keep their systems up-to-date with the latest Service Packs and Critical Updates via the Windows Update feature on Microsoft Operating Systems, or via the Software Update feature in Mac OS X. Unsupported systems can be used; however, they are not officially supported by Housing. This means you will be required to upgrade to one of the systems below before you can receive help from a NetTech. You can update your operating system inexpensively using student the CITES WebStore.
If you do have a Microsoft OS, you need to have a legal license in order to receive updates. To find out if you have a legal version of Windows see the Microsoft website.
