Move-in is an exciting time for the campus, as we welcome thousands of new students to the University of Illinois. If you are a new student, you will be receiving hall assignment and move-in information in your Illinois email account in early June. All residence hall residents will receive room and roommate information by email in late July.
We look forward to meeting you!
Move-In Dates
Move-in day for new freshmen and transfer students is Thursday, August 20, 2009. Freshman residents of Living-Learning Communities who have registered for LLC Orientation move in on Tuesday, August 18, 2009. Returning students move in on Saturday, August 22, 2009. You are strongly encouraged to move in on your designated day. However, if moving in on your designated day causes your family significant hardship, please review early arrival information.
If you are a resident of Daniels or Sherman, your contract begins Thursday, August 20, 2009 but you may arrive and check in on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 without making any advance arrangements. If you need to arrive prior to August 19, please submit an Early Arrival Request.
Illini Guides
Illini Guides ("I-Guides") are returning residents who volunteer to help new students move in. They direct traffic, arrange parking, move your belongings into your hall, and are a great source of information about the campus. I-Guides are a part of the network of University Housing staff members who will be here to welcome you into your new home.
Directions and Parking
If you are a new student moving in on August 20, you will be receiving a move-in map which contains specific directions on how to get to your residence hall. Please do not rely on GPS or online maps, as campus traffic is re-routed for the day and many of the streets you might normally use are blocked or changed to one-way. Once you get close to your building, look for I-Guides in orange shirts for specific unloading and check-in instructions.
