Move-in day for new freshmen and transfer students is Thursday, August 22, 2013. Freshman residents of Living-Learning Communities who are arriving for LLC Orientation move in on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Returning students move in on Saturday, August 24, 2013 (returners, please check in at your area office!). You are strongly encouraged to move in on your designated day. However, if moving in on your designated day causes your family significant hardship, please review early arrival information.
If you are a resident of Daniels or Sherman, your contract begins Thursday, August 22, 2013 but you may arrive and check in on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 without making any advance arrangements. There is a $30/night early arrival charge for checking in on Wednesday, August 21. If you need to arrive prior to August 21, please submit an Early Arrival Request.
The residence halls officially open for spring 2014 check-in beginning Sunday, January 19, 2014. Please pick up your keys at the office in your area between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily. If you will be unable to arrive by the first day of classes on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, notify the Housing Information Office of when you intend to check in. If you arrive after January 21, 2014 without notifying the housing office, your assignment may change. Failure to claim your room assignment does not automatically cancel your contract.
If you are interested in early arrival, early arrival begins on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 8am. The cost of early arrival is $30.00 per night through Saturday, January 18, 2014. To receive early arrival housing, simply report to your hall's area office for check-in. All early arrival charges will be billed to your student university account.
Dining meal plans begins on Monday, January 20, 2014 with brunch (Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday). The deadline to make changes for the spring semester meal plan is mid February (date to be determined).
Illini Guides ("I-Guides") are returning residents who volunteer to help new students move in. They direct traffic, arrange parking, move your belongings into your hall, and are a great source of information about the campus. I-Guides are a part of the network of University Housing staff members who will be here to welcome you into your new home. Look for them in their bright orange t-shirts on Move-in Day.
The I-Guide tradition at Illinois was established in 1947, and we are extremely proud of our all-volunteer staff. These students make Move-in Day a great experience for new residents!
If you are a new student moving in on August 22, 2013 you will be receiving a move-in map which contains specific directions on how to get to your residence hall. Please do not rely on GPS or online maps, as campus traffic is re-routed for the day and many of the streets you might normally use are blocked or changed to one-way. Once you get close to your building, look for I-Guides for specific unloading and check-in instructions.
Free drinks and snacks will be available near each hall-- locations are marked with a water drop on the move-in map.
All residential dining halls will open for regular hours starting with dinner on Thursday, August 22, 2013. If you will be arriving before August 22, check out the early arrival dining hall locations and hours.
Please note that your meal plan is prorated for the first three days of your contract, since meal plan weeks begin on Sunday mornings at midnight. When your contract begins (dinner on Thursday, August 22), here's what your meal plan balance will be:
You will see a full week's balance of meals and credits starting Sunday, August 25, 2013 at midnight.
