Students living in undergraduate residence halls have a meal plan included in their contract—you will select one when you apply for housing. You have the choice of three types of meal plans:
Classic meals are all-you-care-to-eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Café Credits are used in a la carte locations for food items, which are priced individually—you purchase only what you wish. Café Credits can also be used to purchase a classic meal, or to treat a friend to a classic meal or a la carte items. Café Credits are purchased as part of a meal plan. Please note that the minimum meal plan for the undergraduate halls is the 12 Classic/15 Café Credits plan.
Residents in Daniels and Sherman Halls, and in the University Apartments, are not required to purchase a meal plan but are welcome to join us! Many graduate students enjoy the convenience of the dining halls while managing busy schedules on campus. If you are interested in adding a meal plan, speak to the Housing Information Office (100 Clark Hall, 1203 South Fourth Street, Champaign) for assistance. You can also use Extra Credits or a credit card in our dining locations.
Meal plans are also available to individuals who live off campus—simply complete our online form.
Please note that the meal plan will begin on the Sunday following the purchase of the meal plan.
Extra Credits are purchased separately as a supplement to your meal plan. They can be used like Café Credits in most locations to purchase either classic meals or a la carte items (and can even be used for laundry!). You can buy Extra Credits at any time and they never expire as long as you have an active i-card. Faculty and staff with active i-cards can also buy Extra Credits.
