Selection timeline for 2018-2019 positions (January 2018 midyear and the 2018-2019 academic year vacancies)

The Resident Advisor & Multicultural Advocate Selection Process consists of the following:

  • Information and Panel Session - Join us at one of four scheduled RA/MA Information and Panel Sessions to learn more about our positions and receive bonus points when you apply! Just select a session that works with your schedule and arrive by 7:15 p.m. You can attend ANY of the sessions no matter where you live.

    • Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 7:15–8:15 p.m. at Lincoln Avenue Residence Hall (LAR) Main Lounge
    • Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 7:15–8:15 p.m. at Student Dining and Residential Programs (SDRP) 2009
    • Tuesday, October 3, 2017 from 7:15–8:15 p.m. at Florida Avenue Residence Halls (FAR) Trelease Lounge 102
    • Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 7:15–8:15 p.m. at Student Dining and Residential Programs (SDRP) 2009

    Current RAs and MAs will be on hand to tell you about the Illinois Residential Experience (IRE) and their roles as RAs and MAs in our residence halls implementing IRE. Come with your own questions and be prepared to learn a great deal about what applying for our positions could mean for you.

  • Online Application - The RA/MA application portal will be opened at 8 a.m., Monday, October 2, 2017 and completed online applications must be SUBMITTED by Monday, October 16, 2017 at 6:59 p.m. (the portal will close down at 6:59 p.m. sharp.)

  • Multicultural Advocate Group Process Experience (required for all MA applicants) - Monday, October 23, 2017 at 6:45 p.m. or Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 6:45 p.m. You will receive notification about your assigned MA Group Process date no later than Friday, October 20, 2017 in your illinois.edu email

  • Formal Interview for selected candidates on Friday November 3, 2017 at assigned time on the 2nd floor of the SDRP.

  • October 2, 2017: 8:00 a.m. - Online RA/MA Application goes live.
  • October 16, 2017: 6:59 p.m. the Online RA/MA Application is due by hitting the SUBMIT button on the last page of the application
  • October 23, 2017: MA Group Process (1 of 2 time slots offered for the required component for all MA and BOTH RA/MA applicants)
  • October 25, 2017: MA Group Process (1 of 2 time slots offered for the required component for all MA and BOTH RA/MA applicants)
  • October 27, 2017: Applicants will be notified if they are cut from the process or if they are invited for a formal interview.
  • November 3, 2017: The Formal Interview for all selected eligible RA/MA applicants
  • November 30, 2017: 2018-2019 Hiring Meeting Occurs

  • December 1, 2017: January 2018 Midyear RA and MA positions will be offered verbally (pending GPA and judicial checks in early January 2018)

  • January 3, 2018: Residential Life will confirm fall 2017 term and cumulative GPAs and do a complete judicial history check before offers are made.

  • January 10, 2018: Employment Offers will be sent to your @illinois.edu emails for the January 2018 Mid-Year RAs & MAs, 2018-2019 RAs & MAs and those invited to be in the Alternate Pool. New Hires will be required to then register for the required EOL 199, 10 week course for spring 2018.

  • Friday, January 19, 2018: Offers must be accepted in writing and turned in to the Main Residential Life Office in Clark Hall 300 by 5:00 p.m. on this date. (Housing Administration Building across from Huff Hall). Acceptances not received will have offers rescinded.

  • Wednesday, January 24, 2018: Alternates will be able to begin enrolling in EOL 199 remaining class seats (not required), first come first serve (more details later)

  • Saturday, February 10, 2018: Required EOL 199 Retreat Day, 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. (SDRP), more details later

  • Monday, February 12, 2018: EOL 199 Staff Classes (all sections) begin this week

  • *Monday, April 2, 2018: Spring Orientation Night for 2018-2019 MAs (subject to change)

  • *Wednesday, April 4, 2018: Spring Orientation Night for 2018-2019 RAs & MAs (by hall staff) (subject to change)

  • Tuesday, August 7, 2018: Move In Day for all (new) RAs, all MAs, & all Allen Hall PAs

  • Wednesday, August 8, 2018: Paraprofessional Training begins for all new RAs & MAs and all PAs (mandatory/no exceptions)

  • Thursday, August 9, 2018: MA staff departs campus for MA Retreat

  • Sunday, August 12, 2018: Returning RAs Move In for training & hall opening prep

  • Monday, August 13, 2018: Week 2 of Paraprofessional Training begins for all 2018-2019 Paraprofessionals

  • Sunday, August 19, 2018: Undergraduate Halls open for Early Arrivals and Move In Week begins

  • Sunday, August 19–Friday, August 24, 2018: RAs/MAs have required job responsibilities all this week. Do not plan on working other jobs or having other involvements on campus this week.

The only acceptable absences from the required components of the selection process will be academic commitments and extreme personal circumstances. Each is contingent upon 5 business days advanced approval by Melissa McDonald, Assistant Director for Hall Supervision & Staffing - please contact her at mcdonamm@illinois.edu.

Cuts will be made after online applications are evaluated and you will be notified if you are cut.
