LEED Certification
University Housing's newest construction is being built to meet LEED silver certification. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) organization provides a rating system to certify buildings for their commitment to environmental sustainability. Our workers use low-VOC materials (improving indoor air quality), utilize local materials whenever possible, and recycle materials to reduce landfill waste.
Recycling
University Housing residents are encouraged to recycle to help reduce waste in our communities. Read more about how and what to recycle.
Trayless Dining
The newly remodeled PAR dining hall was the first on campus to go trayless! Trayless dining means less wasted food, less wasted energy from washing trays, and substantial water savings. Trayless dining is also available at the Allen Hall/Lincoln Avenue Residence Halls dining hall.
Local Foods
University Housing Dining Services uses locally grown or produced products as aften as possible. Our student-run farm project provides a variety of produce served in our dining halls.
Biodiesel
100 percent of our used dining hall fryer oil is converted to biodiesel to fuel campus vehicles.
Green Cleaning
At University Housing we are continually expanding our use of environmentally friendlier cleaning supplies, packaged in recyclable containers.
Salvage Drive
Each semester our residents are given the opportunity to donate unwanted items that are usable and in good condition. Food (non-perishable), clothing, and notebooks are a few examples of the items we collect and distribute to local charities. Drop-off locations are advertised at the end of each semester.
